Chapter 6 – Happiness

Finally, the time rolled around for me to turn 19. I had to graduate late because of the year I missed for Mona.

I picked out the prettiest dress I had and threw it on, and put on some make up. I called up everyone I knew and invited them to come celebrate.

The first to arrive at the party was Max and his brand new girlfriend, Bella Bachelor. I was shocked to see him move on so quickly. I felt a feeling of hate build up inside me, but I told myself that he wasn’t worth my time.

Suddenly, I had an idea.

“Hey Max, I’ll give you $10 if you go make out with Kaylynn right now,” I whispered into his ear, interrupting his grinding with Bella.

“$10? Come on, you gotta give me more than that Spencer.”

“Make it $20.” I sold it to him and he told Bella he had to go do something real quick. He went up to Kaylynn and brought her body close to his, and slowly began to make out with her in the middle of the party! Bella saw them, and was infuriated. They didn’t speak to each other for the rest of the party.

Finally, it was my time to blow out my candles and make a wish!

I blew out my candles with satisfaction and I was officially 19! I went to go put on a new dress as mine got some frosting on it.

After we all grabbed some cake, the first person I spoke to was Toby. Straight away, I kissed him hard. I had missed this so much.

“I love you Toby.” I whispered.

“I love you too Spence,” He breathed.

My life felt more complete than ever.

********************************************

After the party, I kissed Mona’s forehead and told her to go to bed. Now that she was 6, she had a curfew of 9:00 because of her school bus arriving at 8.

Afterwards, it was time for Toby and I to catch up. We went straight to the bed, and I was in my undies in no time.

We fell asleep right away.

I finally felt like I could completely move on from Max, and start something brand new with someone I truly loved. And Toby was that special someone.

The next morning, I woke up to my phone buzzing. I checked who it was from, and I had 2 missed calls from Ethan.

Oh shit, I forgot about Ethan.

Ethan and I hadn’t gone into an official relationship, but we went on dates and held hands and kissed. We just never got to the actual stage of being in a committed relationship.

All of a sudden, my heart dropped. I knew Ethan really liked me, and I didn’t know how on Earth I would break the news to him that I’d like to move on. Since I was done with school,  I told myself that I wouldn’t have to worry about him…

For now.

Chapter 5 – Repair

The next day, Toby slept in, so I went to go feed Mona before I school.

“You like Toby, don’t you,” I cooed, giving her a bottle. She grabbed a lock of my hair and started tugging on it.

“Ouch!” I laughed, removing her hand from my hair and kissed it.

Max still hadn’t called or tried to make contact with me. Finally, I realized that I was done with being treated like this. I called Max right after school and told him to come over ASAP.

I hoped that he would be more interested in Mona, but instead he wouldn’t leave me alone.

“You’re looking good, Spence,” He said, scanning me up and down.

“That’s not the point Max…” I said, tension building up in my voice. He stopped and looked around. “You renovated?”

“No.”

“Oh.”

Awkwardness was building up. Maybe I’m being too harsh on him… should I give him a chance?

“So, ready to meet Mo-”

“Hey look, I think I just saw something in your backyard!” He interrupted, pointing. He walked over and went out. I of course, had to follow him.

“Oh hey, your hot tub is still here.”

“Yeah….” Of course he had to point out the hot tub.

Mona was conceived in that hot tub.

Without warning, he took of his shirt and unzipped his pants and got in.

“Seriously?” I chuckled, staring at him.

“Come on, get in. We can talk.”

I sighed and decided that talking could do no harm. “Fine, I’ll go change.”

“You don’t need a bathing suit…”

“Max!” I shouted at him. He laughed obnoxiously. I marched in and came back out a few seconds later in my bathing suit. I got in and sat on the edge of the seat, as far away from him as possible.

After a while, he got the best of me. His lips were on mine and I tried to make myself be into it. Maybe if I gave him a chance, he would come back around.

I was wrong. Kissing him did not feel right. I tried to get into it, but I just couldn’t. It wasn’t the same. I suddenly pulled away.

“Spencer, baby, come on…”

“No Max. We’re over. You don’t love me nor Mona, so just leave. Now.” I hissed.

“But-”

“Now.” He got out and walked to his car without even putting his clothes back on.

*******************************************

I came back in to the house a few minutes later to find Toby playing with Mona. I sat down and played with them. I wanted things to be right for once.

Toby and I just began talking like we used to. I had to hold back from kissing him, and it was so hard. Before I knew it, it was already 12 am.

“Hey I’m gunna head to bed now. Here, I’ll take Mona-”

“Not that’ll be fine, I got her,” Toby looked up and smiled at me. It was the first time I saw him smile in a while.

“Goodnight, Toby,” I said, walking away. That night, I could finally sleep knowing that things would be okay.

Chapter 4 – Hurt

The next weekend, I invited Ethan to come to my house for dinner. I told him to bring his bathing suit since we can go in my hot tub for a while too.

Things between me and Toby were a bit awkward. I felt horrible for having to do this to him, but I had to do what I had to do.

“Toby, I-” I got interrupted by the doorbell. “Make us some pasta.”

I ran to the door and let Ethan in.

“Here, dinner is not done yet so we can go in the tub now… Wanna?” I smiled at him. He agreed and followed me out to the backyard.

We got in the tub and were just talking until he suddenly put his arm around me.

“Spencer, I meant what I said the other night. I really do like you,” He said, looking into my eyes.

I felt myself turning red and looked down. He reached over and tilted my chin up. He then slowly moved in, and kissed me right then and there.

“Dinners re-” Toby walked in on us kissing. “Oh um.. here I’ll set the table,” He said quickly, shuffling back into the house. I felt a sinking feeling in my stomach and stopped kissing Ethan for a second.

“What’s wrong Spencer?” Ethan said, his eyes looking worried.

“Oh um… nothing everything’s fine,” I shoved my lips onto his, in an effort to keep him quiet.

*********************************************

After Ethan left, I felt the silence between Toby and I more than ever. He was in the other room, feeding Mona, so I decided to check up on them.

“Hey,” I said, leaning against the door frame.

“Hey,” He said. He did not look at me.

“Toby, I am so sorry. It’s only for a while longer.”

“Well you didn’t say you’d be kissing other guys,” Toby said flatly. I could almost feel my heart being torn apart. “Go get some rest, I’ll put Mona to bed for you.”

Without saying anything, I made my way to my bed, and silently cried myself to sleep.

Chapter 3 – New Beginnings

Mona was growing faster than ever and Toby and I both worked hard to raise her like any other normal child would be raised. Except I knew that one thing was not right.

Toby was my butler after all. I knew I was in love with him; I could not deny it. But surely, if people found out, Toby could get in trouble. After all, it was not completely normal for a 17 year old to be sleeping with her butler. I felt like I needed to tell Toby this, so I took him out for coffee after school one Friday night.

“Um… Toby… listen…” I knew exactly what I wanted to say, but I couldn’t form the words.

“Yea?” He said, taking a sip of his coffee.

“I think that we should take a break,” I blurted, the words tumbling out of my mouth. He just looked at me questioningly. “At least ’till I’m an adult. I… I think it would be easier to be together then…” I trailed off. Toby nodded, his eyebrows furrowing together the slightest bit.

“Alright, whatever you think is best Spencer,” He sort of smiled with the corner of his mouth, then looked down at his hands. I reached over the table and touched my hand to his. I suddenly didn’t care if people saw.

“Toby, you know I love you. I just think we would be happier together later on. Let me finish high school and I promise we will be together,” I smiled at him reassuringly. He sighed slightly and still looked pretty down. I started gathering my things and looked at him. “Well aren’t you coming? We should get going home its already-”

“Yea, I’ll be home soon. I’ll just grab one more coffee and I’ll meet you back at home,” He said, not making eye contact. I had no choice but to leave him there, tears welling in my eyes as I made my way to my car.

1 month later…

For science, we had a group project assigned. I was assigned to work with Ethan Bunch

Ethan seemed shy at first, but after awhile, I found out he was a really friendly guy. We’d meet after school everyday to work on our project at either his house or my house. We became best friends in less than two weeks.

We had just finished the last of the project at his house. “Finally we finished. That project was so annoying!” I sighed, making a noise in the back of my throat.

“Yea, but at least we got to work with each other, which is a plus,” Ethan laughed, packing up his backpack for tomorrow’s school day.

“Definitely!” I smiled, walking up to in front of the door where he was waiting. “I should really get going now though, it’s getting late.”

“Aw, that’s too bad. I had lots of fun these last two weeks. I think you brought out the best in me,” Ethan smiled, his face turning red.

“Oh stop it you,” I smiled, punching his shoulder playfully. I gave him a hug before leaving.

Except this hug was different. He held me tighter than usual, and we hugged for a longer time too.

When we finally let go, he looked into my eyes and smiled. He slowly started leaning in…

Is he gunna kiss me?

I couldn’t help but lean in too. Our lips met and I wrapped my arms around his neck. We stood there like that for quite a while, until I finally broke off.

“I really should go now. Mona’s waiting,” I whispered. I gave him one last big smile as I left and all of a sudden…

“Spencer?” Ethan quickly said.

“Yea?” I turned around.

“I…I like you a lot.”

“Me too Ethan.” My cheeks turned red as I smiled and turned back around and walked out his door.

Does the kiss change everything? Find out in the next chapter!

Chapter 2 – Moving On

“Toby, I want to tell you something…” I finally thought it was time to tell Toby what has been going on.

“Anything Spencer,” Toby’s smiled, reaching for my hand. I squeezed his hand and bit my lip. What is the easiest way to tell him?

“Toby, I’m pregnant.”

Toby’s eyes widened, and his grip on my hand suddenly got a lot looser. “Spencer I am so-”

“It’s not yours. Don’t worry,” I quickly added in. “I… I have a boyfriend. Well, I guess I could call him a boyfriend but he doesn’t care about me or our baby. I slept with him about 3 months ago and I got pregnant.”

Toby just stared at me. I was so scared he was just going to quit right then and there. But instead his eyes softened and he took both of my shaking hands into his and held them tight. “I understand. Whoever he is, he’s an idiot for leaving you.”

“The worst part is that he hasn’t officially ‘left’ me yet… I’m kind of just his accessory now,” I sighed, my eyes lowering to the ground.

“It’s ok, everything will be fine.”

“Thank you Toby,” I smiled at him and gave him a quick kiss. I felt like I was falling for him faster than ever.

*************************************

The weeks of my pregnancy flew by, and I was out of school most of the time. And soon enough, I went into labor. I told Toby that I wanted to deliver the baby at home. I told the doctor that I didn’t want to know the baby’s gender so that it would be a surprise. The delivery was smooth and easy and I gave birth in less than 2 hours.

I had a baby girl, and named her Mona. Mona was gorgeous; she had Max’s sandy blonde hair and my eyes. But right from the beginning of motherhood, I felt guilty. Mona hadn’t known her father through her whole infancy, and he had no part in her life.

I realized that Toby was her real father. Toby cared for her and played with her while I was at school. He treated her like his own daughter. He was the father that Max never was.

And I came to a realization.

It was truly over between Max and I.

What will Spencer do next? Find out in the next chapter!

Chapter 1 – The Beginning

His eyes told lies his lips wouldn’t dare to say. I pushed him out of my life and moved on….

You’re probably wondering what I’m talking about, aren’t you? Let me start from the beginning.

My name’s Spencer. Yep, that’s me. I know, I look like an idiot but it’s one of the only photos that survived during the fire. I’m an only child.

And I mean that literally.

My parents died about 2 months ago. My mother fell asleep at the kitchen table, her fair face resting on a book in front of her, while dinner was in the oven. My father, hearing the alarm, rushed over to save her but it was too late. He tried to run through the flames to pull my mother out, but he died in the fire. And that was that.

The rest of my family are all stuck up snobs, living in the richer part in my small town of Greenbrook. They sent me some crappy “Get Well” cards along with $50 bucks each, and hired me a butler. Yes, a butler. How did they expect me to be able to pay for this butler without even a single $100 dollar bill in my hands?

I could not complain though; he was gorgeous. His name was Toby, and he had messy, sandy blonde hair and gentle, Irish-green eyes. I couldn’t help but have a small crush on him.

What he didn’t know was that I was pregnant.

As I said before, I made mistakes. Many, to be honest. I got too close to a boy named Max. He didn’t really love me. He just loved my body. We were making out one night and it just happened. I couldn’t remember myself trying to stop. I was stupid back then, and also had a little bit too much of the beer that we stole from the fridge without my parents seeing.

Now that I look back, Max was strikingly similar to Toby. But their personalities were nothing alike.

I found out I was pregnant about a month after the night we spent together. I was in shock, because I knew I could not take care of a child completely alone. At first  I was frightened to tell Max, but I told him a few days after I knew.

Afterwards, everything between us began crumpling. He never called me anymore after school to check up on how I was doing. He never came around anymore to see how I was feeling. He sort of just faded out of my life. The only person I had left who wouldn’t judge me was Toby. It sounds lame, but everyday I’d look forward to be able to talk to Toby. He understood me and listened to me like Max never did. He listened to me and did not judge me.

One day, after a long school day, I asked Toby to give me a massage. He loosened up my muscles and I finally felt like I could relax all over. Before I knew what I was doing, my lips were on his and we were kissing. I led him to the bed and it just kind of happened.

My crazy hormones got the best of me and I did the unthinkable.

I slept with my butler! I could not believe what I had just done.

“Toby… I’m sorry…” I quickly got up and ran out of the room, my face reddening. Afterwards, I felt horrible. I felt like I took advantage of him, and he was just trying to do his job. But the next day, he approached me after school.

“Hey Spencer, how was your day?”

“Ok, I guess…”

“Spencer,” He grabbed my shoulders and spun me around so he could look into my eyes. “What happened wasn’t you’re fault.”

I tried to smile but instead my eyes flooded with tears. Toby wrapped me into a hug and kissed me. He wiped my tears away with his sleeve and leaned back in to kiss me.

Before I knew it we were in the bed again.

Spending my nights with Toby helped me forget about reality. Sometimes we would just lay there and he’d hold my hand as I poured out all my sadness.

He helped me more than Max ever could.

Max. I never told Toby about Max, though. I thought it was time to tell Toby about the baby.

What happens when Spencer tells Toby about her baby? Find out in the next chapter!
